Benefits of steel hangers

Hanger space for aircraft is always an important consideration for private pilots, aerodromes and flying schools. Once on the ground your valuable aircraft needs protecting from the elements and space for maintenance. But there are also practical considerations - access doors have to be wide enough and high enough to accommodate the plane's wingspan, and for multiple aircraft in the same hanger there needs to be enough internal space to manoeuvre and park the different planes. Steel-built hangers give the following benefits:

  • Portal frame structure means maximum internal space without obstructing pillars
  • Wide roller and slide doors can be installed for the hanger to the width and height required to allow easy access for aircraft
  • Internal space can be configured to include workshops areas or flight plan rooms
  • Modern steel cladding is highly resiliant giving a professional look to the hanger, maintaining the appearance of the airfield whilst also protecting planes from the weather
  • Steel is the most cost-effective method of building hangers. For airfields renting out hanger space, steel-framed buidlings give the best return on investment

Many airfields started out with relatively makeshift buildings that now need renewing or replacing. And those airfields that have modernised find that improving facilities attracts more usage, and so requires more building space and covers. When you're investing in flying for both situations, steel buildings and steel-built hangers make the most sense for your airfield needs.
