Benefits of Agricultural Steel Buildings

Steel buildings are extremely popular on farms and for agricultural use, providing an easy, low maintenance building at a low cost. Most farms will have some form of steel-framed building for storage, or as garaging for farm machinery. But steel buildings can also be used for workshops and animals too. When we talk to farmer and farm managers they tell us agricultural steel buildings also have the following additional benefits:

Combined loading and storage bay for agricultural use

  • Steel buildings are low cost yet very fast to install (and quick to dismantle if you wish to change or upgrade later)
  • The steel building portal frame structure gives large internal space - ideal for storage or garaging of large farm vehicles
  • Older corrugated steel buildings have a poor reputation, but modern steel-based cladding is low-maintenance and available in a multitude of colours to fit in with the farm's surroundings
  • Design flexibility - for instance from very large storage facilities to small workshop or retail units. And designs don't always have to be 'steel boxes'. American Barn style designs give height and character and if you don't want steel cladding, natural materials can be used for facilities like stabling or riding arenas
  • The walls of a steel building do not support the weight which means that windows and skylights can be placed anywhere bringing natural light in as required
  • Doors can be placed anywhere, or the building left open as you require. Large roller doors can be added for access via larger farm machinery - or access can be through smaller person-sized doors
  • Long-lasting, durable that will continue to look good for years without becoming shabby.

Barn in construction showing the large access space and skylights Farms use buildings in many different ways and each farm is different. It's possible you would want your agricultural building to replace an existing one. Our suppliers can help with dismantling or replacing, or even extending existing buildings. Factors like what the building will be used for are important. A storage unit might not have the same needs for insulation, lighting or heating of a farm production line or animal housing for instance.
